Historic and Cultural Heritage  

Ghana is steeped in a rich and vibrant cultural heritage, making it a fascinating destination for cultural enthusiasts and anthropologists. Ghana boasts more UNESCO world heritage sites than any other country in Africa. It hosts 32 historic forts and castles and 13 traditional Ashanti buildings. Most of these sites are castles and forts built by European nations when they first arrived in Ghana. The most renowned ones are the Cape Coast Castle and Elmina Castle.  Hundreds of historic buildings and town sites, important archaeological sites, and works of monumental sculpture or painting. Six (6) other sites have also been nominated for approval.  The country is home to numerous cultural significant sites such, which bear witness to Ghana’s complex past and the transatlantic slave trade. Exploring these UNESCO World Heritage Sites allows visitors to gain a deeper understanding of the country’s history and its impact on the world.
